Raneda to Felechosa

El Canto Del Gallo (alt. 1000m) is one of the best B&B's we have ever stayed at. Nate made us a lovely dinner last night and then her and Jose went to their home in Bonar and we had the place to ourselves. Most relaxing place yet. Breakfast was also pretty good though I did soak some oats to make sure that I would be OK for climbing to the Puerto de San Isidro. We left the B&B about 9:45 and although the sun was out it was really quite cold at 10 centigrade. Mainly down hill to Bonar and then a quick stop for supplies and coffee before heading north on the LE331. The road skirts around a large reservoir with the look of a Scottish loch. The temperature kept dropping as we entered the mountains and the stop for lunch at the Hotel Restaurant Madrid in Puebla del Lillo was very welcome. Jose had recommended the place for lunch but it didn't look very promising when we entered the bar. However, after some discussion about gluten free stuff we eventually got seated and had a lovely meal. For starters there was a haricot bean soup or a vegetable stew and for main course the usual pork loin/beef steak and chips and salad with flan for desert. Very good value at €12 a head. Had one surreal moment when an ancient lady escaped fro the kitchen, came to our table and gave Sally a kiss on the cheek before being ushered back into the kitchen by the waitress.

After lunch it was the big climb up to the Puerto de San Isidro (alt 1520m). The countryside grew wilder looking and the snow patches got closer and closer. There is mainly ski mess at the top so not very pretty but we did have a dog try to join our pack for quite a way. I think he would still be with us if he could have kept up down the descent.

It was really very cold now and we piled on all the layers we had - 6 each. Freezing cold hands and feet though which made it hard to enjoy the stunning scenery. Very pleased to arrive in Felechosa (alt. 700m) at the Hotel Rapido and pleasantly surprised by the room. My word we were freezing though.
